Quite often, we hear stories of people who have been bitten by snakes. But the biggest worry is always how such a victim will be treated given the fact that most health facilities lack medicines for snake bites. Snakebite envenoming kills more than 125,000 people each year and leaves more than 400,000 victims with severe disability. It kills more people than any other WHO-categorised neglected tropical disease (NTD), but also stands out as the oddball on a list of debilitating diseases that affect over a billion people every year.
