COVID-19 vaccines funding landscape in Uganda
Many countries in Africa including Uganda experienced a surge in COVID-19 cases and
remained at high risk of further surges. The National Deployment Vaccination Plan
(NDVP) for COVID-19 vaccines for Uganda initially targeted to vaccinate up to 49.6% of
the population (about 21,936,011) through a phased manner later revised in early 2022 to
67.7% (29,930,750 people) to cater for the vaccination of 12 -17-year-old children and
buffer for booster doses. Uganda mainly hinged on the COVAX facility to acquire and
benefit from vaccine donations and purchases using the government of Uganda's own
resources. Online web data search showed that Uganda had purchased over 4,396,825
vaccines and received an estimated 32,588,423 COVID-19 vaccine doses from various
countries.
