HEPS-Uganda is a membership organisation, consisting of about 250 individual and institutional members. Membership is open and therefore the coalition is calling upon interested people/ organisations both nationally and internationally to join.
HEPS-Uganda has various types of membership to suit different people who support the promotion of health consumers’ rights and responsibilities. If you identify with the cause and would like to become a member, HEPS-Uganda has several categories of membership which are in two broad categories, namely, Individual and Partner/Organization/Group/Club.
Individual Membership:
Individual membership comprises of Student Membership, Individual Ordinary Membership, Founder Membership, Research Associate, Honorary Membership and Goodwill Ambassador.
Student Membership:
Student Membership is made up of members who are in secondary schools and tertiary institutions. One-off membership fee: UShs 1000; Annual subscription fee: UShs 1000. These members receive the HEPS quarterly newsletter and weekly health news summaries and are free to use the HEPS counseling and redress services.
Individual Ordinary Membership:
One-off membership fee: UShs 20,000; Annual subscription fee: UShs 20,000. These members receive the HEPS quarterly newsletter and weekly health news summaries, receive training or access to health information, are free to use the HEPS counseling and redress services, and have voting right at the Annual General Meeting.
Founder membership:
This comprises of members as listed in the Articles of Association, Constitution and attended the first strategic planning meeting in November 2000. They pay an annual subscription fee of UShs 20,000. These members receive the HEPS quarterly newsletter and weekly health news summaries, receive training or access to health information, are free to use the HEPS counseling and redress services, and have voting right at the Annual General Meeting.
Research Associates:
These are members who execute agreed advocacy and/or research on behalf of the organization and/or attend working group meetings. They pay a one-off membership fee of Ushs 20,000 and an annual subscription fee of Ushs 30,000. These members receive the HEPS quarterly newsletter and weekly health news summaries, receive training or access to health information, are free to use the HEPS counseling and redress services, and have voting right at the Annual General Meeting.
Honorary Membership:
Honorary Membership is an award to dedicated members of the organization, who have served HEPS in an exemplary way. These members are acknowledged on the HEPS website, receive the HEPS quarterly newsletter and weekly health news summaries, receive training or access to health information, are free to use the HEPS counseling and redress services, and have voting right at the Annual General Meeting.
Good Will Ambassadors:
These are members who promote HEPS projects and strategic programmes to relevant stakeholders and make voluntary contributions. They are mentioned and have a link on the HEPS website, receive quarterly newsletter and weekly health news summaries, are free to use the HEPS resource centre, as well as the counseling and redress services.
Partner/Organization/Group/Club Membership:
International and national organizations that are interested in HEPS membership apply and pay a membership fee of UShs 150,000 and an annual subscription fee of UShs 150,000. They are mentioned and have a link on the HEPS website, and receive quarterly newsletter and weekly health news summaries. National organizations can also get advocacy training from HEPS Uganda, if desired, at a subsidized rate.
CBO/Group membership comprises of people who have been trained at community level, form a group of 25 to 30 to constitute membership. They receive a two-day training for community health trainer in which they learn to train peers on health rights and responsibilities and rational use of medicine. They receive the HEPS quarterly newsletter, can use the HEPS counseling and redress services and are represented by one member for voting at the Annual General meeting.
