Two officials from the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability (ANSA Africa), a South African-based organization that advocates for citizen involvement in governance initiatives, visited HEPS-Uganda on 19th August 2009 as part of an assessment process for implementation partners in an upcoming regional social accountability project.
While at HEPS-Uganda, Senior Researcher Ms Carmen Alpin Lardies and Finance Grants Controller Ms Topsy Botha held a meeting with the Director of Operations Mrs Lillian Mujuni, programme managers and the Accountant, Mr Bestason Aliyo.
The mission also visited HEPS-Uganda’s partners, including NAFOPHANU, VSO Uganda, NACWOLA, AGHA Uganda and HURINET.
Hosted by African democratic institute Idasa in Pretoria, ANSA-Africa is seeking to link African civil society and community groups across the continent as implementation partners, to support and implement social accountability initiatives in key thematic areas, including education, gender, ICTs, service delivery and health.
The implementation partners will in turn forge their own regional and local associations to implement social accountability initiatives and expand cadres of knowledge.
The objectives are to:
- Develop cross-country collaboration on social accountability and demand-side governance initiatives.
- Provide technical assistance to different countries so the quality of social accountability initiatives is greatly enhanced; deliver training programs on specific tools and techniques.
- Share country experiences and lessons from social accountability and demand-side governance initiatives regionally and globally.
The ANSA Africa-HEPS Uganda meeting discussed the project and the expected roles of the partners.
